CRICKET Fraternity of Qatar, a group of cricket lovers in Doha, will hold a cricket tournament on the occasion of Qatar National Day.

The tournament Nation Cup 2014 will run from December 10 to 17 at the Old Ideal Indian School grounds.

Eight teams from five countries will be vying for the trophy. The teams are: Qatar, represented by Qad-Net Team; Bangladesh, by BCT; India, by Hanan and Tuskers; Pakistan by Al Khor Community; and Qatari Diar and Sri Lanka by Serendeb and New Design respectively.

The organisers, Sanjay Kudri and Imtiaz, announced at a media event the winners and runners-up will be honoured with the Nation Cup trophies, individual and cash prizes for the teams.

It's a 12-over match, with two matches being played every day. Semifinals and finals will be played under flood lights.

Noted Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal will attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday. Earlier, a minute's silence was observed as a mark of respect to Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, who died recently.

Main sponsor, Siraj Virani, Managing Director of Qad-Net Qatar, was the chief guest. The opening ceremony will be attended by former President of Karnataka Sangha Arun Kumar, Milan Arun and Surender.
