Philippine Embassy lauds blood donation drive

The Philippine Embassy in Doha has lauded the efforts of three organisations in Qatar for holding a quarterly blood donation campaign aimed at helping not only Filipino patients but also other nationalities.

"I commend the members of Kamanggagawa Foundation Incorporated (KFI), UNTV staff, and Photoville International for their participation in the recent blood donation drive organised by the Hamad General Hospital," Philippine Ambassador to Qatar HE Wilfredo Santos said in a statement.

"This humanitarian gesture is a testament to the commitment of the Filipino community in Qatar to be a part of the efforts to ensure a secure blood supply by hospitals for the benefit of all the people in Qatar, including Qataris and expatriates," he noted.

The envoy believes that the groups' participation in the campaign will"raise awareness on the importance of donating blood to save lives."

Held at the Donor Centre of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recently, members of KFI led another blood-donation drive together with volunteers of Philippine 'Public Service Channel' UNTV and photography group Photoville International.

"We are in unison in fully supporting this noble endeavour, which is being held across the globe and in the Philippines, as part of the advocacy of our Chairman Emeritus Eliseo Soriano and CEO"Kuya" Daniel Razon to do good things to all men," KFI-Qatar co-ordinator Giles Cesar Gucor said.

At least 32 out of 40 registrants passed the screening at the Centre, which receives a large number of volunteers from various individuals and groups.

KFI member July Paunil said under the leadership of Chairman Emeritus Soriano, they have been taught how to help their compatriots , as well as other nationalities, in their own little way.

Photoville International member Eric Cao shared the same aim saying they are one with the quarterly blood donation campaign abd with Soriano and Razon, who believe that"good deeds will bear no evil fruit."

Gucor said they are also supporting various activities of the Philippine embassy in Doha and the Qatar government since its inception in 2010.

KFI, a non-stock, non-profit association of overseas Filipino workers in Qatar, also received a number of recognitions from HMC for its efforts in organising blood-donation campaigns.

Officials of the organisation, as well as UNTV and Photoville International, have vowed to continue its blood donation drive quarterly.

"We hope that more members and volunteers will join us in the second quarter which may take place in June, in time for the World Blood Donor Day," Gucor said.

The three organisations have been holding different charitable activities in Qatar for the past several years that benefited those in dire need such as distressed overseas Filipino workers at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Doha.
